Question:
Can anyone tell me how long it should take and how much it should cost to install headgaskets in a 99 pontiac w/V6 ? My location is in southern Kansas. Do you have to buy a H.G. kit or can you just by the headgaskets? estimated cost for them? I have a shade tree mechanic working out of his backyard that wants to charge me 5 bills to do this job. That sounds kind of high to me. Thanks in advance to all that respond.

Bought a used car for our daughter and has funky smell in air and defrost??
Besides the head gaskets, intake, exhaust gaskets need to be replaced, and valve cover gaskets...they sell top end rebuild kits for head gasket repair, which have all the necessary gaskets in them.
Is it my cat converter or an O2 sensor?
Even a shop will use up several days, so backyard may be more...

How hard is it to remove creases in metal?
The engine is basically a block with heads on it, separated by the head gaskets. That's like an engine overhaul, you might as well replace the rings while it's apart.
you want the kit..your friend is working cheep ..if he knows what he is doing..a shop would be over a thousand
Hi everyone,i am having a issue with my 85 blazer transmission?
Thats a fair price, if it includes parts. You will need the entire kit, as you must remove exhaust manifold and valve covers. You will not have access to the piston rings through the head, you will see the pistons, but not the rings. To get the rings out, you would have to remove the oil pan, and un bolt your crank rods. This would allow access to the rings.I have a ford taurus that needs help?

I have a chevy 393 motor that i is still sitting on the engine stand?
First what liter size & what kind of Pontiac? I looked up a 3.8L Bonneville. Labor is (both heads) 14.7 hours - estimated price on job if it was in my shop would be $1300.00 - $1500.00. Of course this depends on if the heads are not cracked & misc. parts that need to be replaced (i.e. - reason why your vehicle ran hot) water pump, radiator, and thermostat ect...) Make sure you send heads to a machine shop to be checked for cracks & re-surfaced. Also that cylinders heads are torque to specs.Ask this guy for references, check them,if he's good, (according to references),let him fix it! There's alot of parts removal involved as well as proceedural expertise. $500.00 is a good price. Yes,get the kit. don't know how much clutter is under your hood,or whether it's front wheel drive or not,...that will be a factor in determining how long the job will take, as well as his access to necessary tools/equipment.
If he's good, and he's serious about getting paid,he could have you running easily in one day's time.
