""Answer: No. You do not need to use a 5w20 oil. The only reason 5w20 was specified for your engine is to increase the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) reported to the Federal Government. ""

Toyota 18-RC misfire problem.?

Because the engineers who designed these engines engineered the internal parts to work best with 5W-20 oil. The main reason, I think was to reduce internal pumping losses and to increase gas mileage.

I have an 86 fiero gt w/ a squeaky alternator belt, does this run my oil and water pump too?

5-20 oil is thinner than 5-30. Thinner oil can get into smaller areas more easily, improving lubrication. You can use thicker oil in the summer months because it won’t be as thick during a cold start. The difference between 20 and 30 is not that much and shouldn’t have a negative effect. I wouldn’t go much higher than 30 though.

How do I unlock a 2001 F250 with a hanger?

Please note the source provided by Yoho is not in any way authoritative (it appears to be just an AMSOIL distributors web site and I don't believe AMSOIL offers a 5W20). Therefore it should in no way be taken as gospel. There is for example, zero evidence that I have found (and I have looked) that supports the two main conclusions of that article:

Can anyone tell me who can repair a zipper in my camper trailer door in the Beenleigh district.?

If #1 were true for example, why does Ford still recommend 5W30 for many of its least fuel efficient vehicles such as much of its truck line? Why does Honda, which has no problems with its CAFE numbers recommend 5W20 on most of its product line? On its face the article smacks of heresay, rumour and opinion. Not real-world data.

How much does it cost to have a radiator flush with new coolant in my '99 Toyota Camry?

You should always use whatever weight of oil is recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. As far as I am concerned, they designed and built the engine so by default they know best. Remember, there was a time when 5W30 was considered only a winter oil. The "standard" was heavy oils like 20W50. Even 10W30 seemed "thin" not so long ago. Now a vast majority of vehicles recommend 5W30 oil all year round - yet you don't see a rash of prematurely worn out engines from this. As engine technology improves, as tolerances tighten with new manufacturing techniques and as oils themselves improve, so do the recommendations change to meet these new conditions. In another 5 years I predict 5W20 will probably be the new standard and will be nearly as universal as 5W30 is today and as 10W30 was before that and 20W50 before that.
