OR you could start the car and simply remove the positive battery cable. Alot of peoplesay not to do this. I cant see it damaging anything. Ive done it on almost ALL makes of cars. if the car dies it means the car was running off the battery power. If it still runs its not your alternator : ) good luck

Hi to start with a make and model would help... a quick easy way to check is at night start car up park it against a wall turn on the dip bean headlights then rev the car up to 2000 rpm and see if the lights get a little brighter. this is by no means an accurate way but will give you some idea if its charging over 12 volts. Please don't remove your battery lead as this can damage the ECU on some vehicles a multimeter is far cheaper.
