Question:
hi, i have an 03 Chevy Cavalier and the motor to my window broke. i want to fix it i dont want to replace it, i much rather learn how to fix it. does anyone know what typically goes wrong with window motors and if they are even really repairable??

What was your first car restoration project?
first you need to see if its the motor or the switch.Remove your inside door panel and using two jumper wires direct from your battery two your power window motor.unplug it hook the jumper wires direct if it goes down its not your motor it,s your master switch.if it goes down ,reverse the jumper wires and your window will go up.If nothing happens tap your motor with a small hammer,if your window goes down its the motor.if it has cables the cable could have broke inside you would have to replace the regulator.some vehicles you can only buy the reg and motor complete. You could save some $ buying what ever part you need at your local salvage yard. Its not really worth trying to repair it yourself.Hope this helps you good luckwhen they go bad they burn up, just put a new motor on it, you will have to drill out the rivets as the motor and window regulator are riveted in, you can use bolts to reinstall the new one.
