My starter went out a month ago, so I went to auto zone and got and a new starter. The starter worked great for about five starts then a couple rough starts and then just "click". Took the car to a mechanic and they said I have a bad starter and I should get a new one. I took the starter to auto zone and they tested the starter which failed after a couple starts. I got a new starter and installed it. Same thing happen with a couple good starts and then just clicks and rough starts. Took the starter back to auto zone and got my money back and went to O'Riely's auto parts. Guess again, same thing. I inspected the fly wheel and I see no harsh signs of wear or broken teeth. I don’t want spend $500-$1000 to have a mechanic put in a new fly wheel. I don’t see how an average condition fly wheel (Has all its teeth) is busting my starters. I'm lost. Does anyone have any ideas besides getting a new fly wheel or shims (not need for Neons) for the starter? Is there a short and long nose starter?

check and see how far the starter is going back to the flywheel.it might need shimmed or some shims taken out.
