Why is my car whining?

Question:
for the last two weeks whenever i start my car it whines-- it is louder when i turn the wheel either way. I have tried power stearing fluid with no luck. a few months ago i replaced the alternator and belt and at that time it had a similar or same whine. that was the second alternator i have replaced in the same year... could it be that again? the car seems to run fine. what else could it be?

Probably the beginning of a failing power steering pump. Very common for them to get loud and whiny when they fail. I suggest getting the vehicle to a shop, because there may also be a reason for the power steering pump failure (i.e. steering rack and pinion leaking/binding internally)

check the tension on your belts, new belts stretch after the first couple months. Chances are, they just stretched enough to be loose and whine when you first start the care. Just put more tension on them.

IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS. MOST LIKLEY SOMTHINNG THEAT IS BELT DRIVEN, IF NOT AN ALTERNATOR, MAYBE THE WATERPUMP, P/S PUMP, LOTS OF THINGS I WOULD TAKE THE VEHICEL TO A MECHANC AND HAVE THEM PROPERLY DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BEFOR YOU PUT MORE MONEY INTO IT.
