i have a 1987 volvo that acts as if its not getting enough gas i have done a tuneup, catalitic converter, thoddle senser, new exaust and muffler, new battery.and its still not running it will start and run its when i go to take off it dies out and i have trouble gettin it to start again

It could have fuel delivery problems. Perhaps something along the lines of a bad fuel pump.Any1 know whats wrong with my car?
Have you tried replacing the fuel filter?Check the EGR valve, if it has one.

What about your fule pump? Adjusting your carborator?Did the tune-up include plugs and plug wires? Go to Autozone. They have a computer they can hook up to your car to provide the problem codes. If you get these codes, it'll tell you the possible problems and they can recommend solutions. Also, you could try chatting up a mechanic in one of your local shops. Worked for me. ;)~

If this car has a distributor and points inside (and NOT electonic ignition) then I guess that the contact points are too close together. This is OK for idleing and starting, but when you put a load on the engine, the spark isn't big enough in high voltage.
The points have to be wider, so the electric charge can build up higher between sparks.

Intermittant problem with a check valve in a fuel filter; and I had an older car that drove my mechanic nuts untill he figured out there was a filter IN the tank that was clogging and needed replaced. When it died, the problem cleared a bit; when it ran, it came back.It could be simply age. 20 years is extremely old for a car and it is probably better to toss it and buy a new car (even if it's second-hand).

After you checked the fuel filter and everything along that line and if it still does it.Gear 3 slips back to neutral while driving?
I would suggest bad gas or dirt inside the tank. Has the car been sitting awhile, what type of gas do you use? Maybe time to switch gas stations or try a higher grade fuel. Maybe the car requires a higher octane fuel set in 1987 and you use regular which is a lower grade than 20 years ago. The older cars need higher octane. Is it pinging or knocking, blowing black smoke. Bad timing and bad fuel will do just that.
Did you have each cylinda compress pressure check.!9 years old car must be excess wear and tear which including rings and gearing.If timing is right and the fuel line is ok car without power must be the excess wear off the rings.
