Search for a reconditioned/re-manufactured engine from a reputable firm, they're usually as good as if not better than the original, complete with warranty. The only source for a brand-new engine will be Volvo and you'll pay a fortune. Renault's engine, by the way, is often used by other manufacturers. Will a 2004 LS2 engine fit in my 1996 Corvette?
Have a good look on ebay, there are loads of scrappers that sell on the net.you will need whats called an "engine call". take it out, in a wooded area preferably, and blow into it. you wont be able to hear the sound, as it emits a frequency only detectable by engines. wait a few minutes, and a few should come running. carefull though, i think its their mating season.
can I drive a short distance with this wrong?
1st step, speak to Renault and Volvo to get an idea of cost through them, they should quote with labour time too. Then look through a mag like autotrader and exchange and mart, in the back they will have scrappers and re conditioners in the back. contact one of these and get a price. you should find nothing wrong with a reconditioned unit, and dont forget to ask them the mileage this engine has covered.
They should also be able to fit this for you in there workshop so get a price. once you've sussed out where your going DON'T FORGET to register the new engine number etc with the d.v.l.a for the v5 doc's etc.
