Do i have to replace all the electronic components if my heater core went out?

Question:
my car started pouring water out of the firewall and my mechanic tells me my heater core is shot. then he says it's all connected to electrical system like the airbag and such. this sounds like its gonna cost me a small fortune, when i originally thought a hose and a clamp would do the job!! do i need to go thru all that just to get my car back on the road?

If you just want to drive then bypass the heater core by removing the two coolant hoses for the feed and return lines and connect them together. There are no electronics linked to a heater core. Unless it leaked coolant all over some electronic modules under the dash but I've never heard of this.
