Remote Starter acting funny?

Question:
I have a '98 Nissan Altima, and the remote starter/keyless entry was installed about 5 years ago. Recently, It has been doing strange things. First, I have to be MUCH closer to the car to start it than ever before. But, more importantly, when I push unlock on the remote, sometimes it quickly re-locks itself. It had done this several times in a row before, so I can't even open my door. I tried considering the weather, and the fact that I had my windshield replaced about 6 months ago, but it does not seem related to either.
If anyone knows anything about this, please advise. Could it just need a new battery?
Also, please don't tell me to use my key, cause that is a whole different story, and it doesn't work either lol.
