Last week I had my serpentine belt replaced for a 1999 Olds Alero to fix a squealing problem at an oil lube place. Well, turns out the squealing was still there after they replaced the belt, so I figured it was either my tensioner or a bad pully and took it to a GM dealer to get it fixed. After paying $120 to have my tensioner replaced and an idler tested, my belt is still squealing when I accelerate. The Dealership service dept told me to that it was obviously my belt that needed to be replaced, you know, the one I bought last week. They said that whoever put my serpentine belt on put an aftermarket belt on and that that could be the reason why it has already gone bad.Should I take my car back to the oil lube place that put my belt on and demand they give me my money back?

Well you sort of have a case. The defective tensioner wore out the new belt in a few hundred miles. They replaced the belt without testing the tensioner. However when you have a lube place replace anything on your car, you are getting the least experienced mechanics in the trade. They do not have the tools or the experience to handle anything abnormal as it was in your case. Not so sure I would trust the dealership on that one. Instead of asking the repair shop for a refund have you given them the chance to fix the issue?cadillac brake repairs lights wont work?
before You start a war.........be sure that the size of the after market serpentine belt is the one required for Your vehicle( if they got the wrong one then fight)
but, also the dealer is in trouble because You paid them to fix a problem($120.00 US dollars)and they did not fix the problem.they make a wrong diagnostic and provable they had change a good part..

I'm with John and Corwin. Obviously the bad tensioner wrecked the new belt, the dealership didn't replace it did they? Go to the dealer and tell them you paid to have the noise go away, they can replace the belt which they should have done. Cheap or GM it should go at least 10k without screwing up and squealing.Input on what is wrong with my car?
i would go to the dealer and have them take a look at the problem they supposedly fixed. you have the right to take it to them to have it checked out. and if the belt that was on there before was the wrong one they had to tell you before they gave the car back to you.More Questions & Answers ...
