The 3.4L GM motor has a 'pattern' failure for the intake gasket and/or manifold (unfortunate because this is a sweet powerful engine). This is what Dave alludes to in his previous response. Nearly all 3.4L engines require at least replacement of the intake manifold gasket after, say, 80K miles (could be more, but not usually less). The manifold is made of plastic and sometimes breaks down from heat. This can be inspected when removed from the vehicle.Rear end fram damage...is it safe to repair?
Either failure allows engine oil and coolant to mix, and/or coolant to be sucked into the cylinders. It will then slowly mix with the engine oil that lubricates the cylinder walls.

Bottom line: get on this immediately. Coolant in the oil creates 'milkshake' (a frothy mixture of oil and coolant) that clogs up oil passages and compromises the ability of oil to lubricate. This will ruin an engine in very short order.

From your description, it sounds like it has not progressed too far. Estimate for gasket replacement, oil and coolant flush and change is about $500 - 700 at an independent. If manifold is required add more (these can be purchased on eBay for a fraction of dealer cost).

Color and smell of the "oil" would be helpful. Antifreeze is typically a green color, but can be yellow, and I think red, but they all smell sort of sweet. Motor oil comes out of the can a golden color, but turns black almost instantly when it gets into the engine, and has an earthy/diesel smell to it. i would take it to the shop and let it be checked out and fixed could be a small crack or gasket that is going bad ect.. and then the problems will start have it checked out in a chevy shop icome back with more details.

sorry but you have the dreaded GM intake gasket problem. It is about a $500 job at a mechanic. Make sure they put the metal mesh gasket back in and no the plastic one. think about 9 out of 10 3400 and 3100 engines have had to have the intake gaskets replaced. Terrible GM design that they should have paid for on all vehicles made regardless of mileage or age.More Questions & Answers ...
