Taking half of pipe away an placing tights over the end of it

Clutch is slipping - can I drive it?
When the car was designed the manufacturer design the car for a mix of performance, reliability and fuel economy. As a result the air flow path to the engine can be tortuous resulting in reductions to the air flow/power loss.Removing the air filter assembly has some advantages in that it will increase the air flow to the engine, but and this is a big but it will also reduce the life expectancy of the engine as it will allow dirt to enter the engine.
Using tights will only catch leaves etc. and not the small particles that do the damage.
Another major disadvantage is that when the weather is bad you also draw water droplets into the engine reducing the power out put.
Another problem is that in hot weather you will be drawing the air into the engine from the engine compartment, as a result it will be hot resulting in a drop in air density with an associated power drop off.
The best thing to do is look on eBay for a proper induction kit for the 306 as it this will include a high quality air filter and all the required adapters/pipes etc.

Yeah, and it will look sexy too.Is it illegal to drive a car with the interior stripped out (In California)?
it is not suggested to run a motor without the PROPER air filter, the tights will be a weak filter. replacing the filter with tights will increase the airflow, yes, but at the cost of getting dirt into your motor.
Don't you think if that were the case, companys would sell tights at auto parts stores instead of air filters?

1997 Chrysler LHS with "bad Valve"...HELP I NEED ANSWERS!!?
Dirt in the intake would wreck the Airflow Sensor, be like sandpaper to the turbo and cylinder bores and cause the car to generate a lot more diesel soot because of the inefficient burn. If you really want to increase the airflow, then buy a K&N or equivalent high flow filter. A lot cheaper than a rebuit engine.PS: The performance gain you'll get from a 1.9 Turbo Diesel will hardly be noticeable, but the sticker in the box. Priceless..
