it then decided to not go any faster than 40mph and kept pulling back, the power would go then come back? does anyone no what could be causing this? also the k&n on it sounds really loud now because of it? it still drives but it srugles to go any faster than 30mph?

both are quite good engines, howeaver the description you supply points to either the ECU throwing a tantrum or possiabley burnt out exhaust valves, or incorrect seating.
check valve clearances (where possiable) Compression test, cylider leakage test, to identify problem, i have known fords to have valves sieze in guides where they ars not totally compatable with unleaded fuel. I:e every third tank of petrol needs to be leaded to avoid siezure.
If the ECU has shut down into get you home mode it will have excessive fuel consumption and will only return about 25 to 30 MPH ECU will need resetting by someone with equipment (not Necessarily Main Agent)

Most Ford Ka's struggle to do more than 30 mph. I think the technical term for your problem is -its knackered..I've had two cars do this but for different reasons! The first was an old-school Mini that needed a new distributor cap (the nice AA man sorted that out for me). The second was an Astra and the starter motor had gone so I ahd to pay £150 for a new one. If you can still start your car, it's obviously not the starter motor that's the problem!

Mine did that and it was the spark plugs, the garage either hadn't changed them during my service or had fitted the wrong ones, it got gradually worse, at first it only did it occasionally on the motorway but eventually it wouldn't even do 30, if you've had it serviced at a garage they should fix it for you if it was their mistake as it was in my case. If it sounds louder, it could be an air leak.have you sprayed the K&N with filter oil recently? The oil is renowned for causing problems for the airflow sensor if you over oil the filter.. Is there a yellow light on the dash with an image of an engine?

I'd question the decision of using a K&N filter; the difference on a Ka would be negligible. Check the filter, it could be clogged with muck.
