do you have access to compressed air if so remove the gas cap remove the fuel line just before the pump in the back of the car and blow in the line back to the tank did this help?? you may just have a bad pumpWhat's the average cost of a paint job?
Remove the round gas gauge thing on top of the tank, should have 6 or 8 phillips screws.Filter should be in bottom of tank,or possibly between tank and engine.....Is there such a thing as "wrong" coolant for a car?
Nasty situation. You will have to drain the tank, so I would suggest investing in a small electric fuel pump to first see if it isn't just a plug in the lines from the tank to the carb. Older cars tend to get a slight buildup of nastiness in the lines, and if the car has sat for any amount of time, it makes the situation all the more difficult. If in fact the strainer is plugged, prepare to get dirty. You will have to pull the sending unit (where the fuel line attaches to the tank) and pull it out to see if it can be salvaged. Just put a screwdriver to one of the tabs, and tap it gently with a screwdriver to get the retaining ring to unscrew, then just pull the sender out. Try to save the gasket if you can, as I am not sure how easy it is to find replacements for a 68 VW. Same thing happened to my old 77 Mustang, and I had old gas running down my arm and into a funnel/catch can. NASTY! If the strainer is plugged, you may have to clean out the lines as well. Good Luck!I haven't work on that car since, the 70's
