Problem with 2000 Grand Jeep Cherokee Limited?
Do you mean a remote start/alarm? A remote start installation is the only reason you'd have to lose a key. Will a 4.3L fit in a 85 S-10 pickup without changing motormounts?
Basically when a remote start is installed in a vehicle with transponder chips in the keys, you have to find a way to fool the system into thinking the correct key is in the ignition when the remote start activates. One way to do this is with a "key-box" bypass module. The key gets installed into the bypass module, which has wiring connected to the remote start unit as well as an antenna loop which runs up to the key switch. When the remote start is activated, the module reads the code from the key and transmits it up to the antenna loop at the key switch; the vehicle gets the code from the antenna loop and is allowed to start.
I don't seem to have much luck with auto shops. Seems like they still use process of elimination .?
Your key is inside the bypass module box. The installers are supposed to place the box in a spot that's hard to get to, because a thief who recognized it could break it open and use the key to steal your vehicle. You can find it by locating the wire that runs to the antenna loop, coming from the key switch, then following it to the bypass module.
