Question:
I drove the car about 30 miles on the freeway (15 miles there and back) and on the way back at about 7 or 8 miles into the trip my Service Engine Soon light came on and stayed on. The car was never turned off or parked. Just went where I went and back. The car shows no symptoms and it did this twice before and after about 2-3 days the light went off and didn't come back on. The other times it did it were also during trips of 20 minutes or more one way and back by freeway.
The 1st time the car did it was once I had made it to my destination. I got there & the car started to Idle very high. As if someone was laying on the gas peddle. I turned the car off for 3-5 minutes and when I started it back up it was fine. I drove it back home and by the time I got home the Service Engine Light had come on. I've never had anymore symptoms and like I said after about 2 or 3 days the light just goes off.

the light comes on when the computer detects a malfuction, yopu will need to have some one pull the codes from the computer to determine what area to checkIs it expensive to fix a serpentine belt?
dont panic or anything go to autozone and ask the to run an OBD (on Board Diagnistic) typicly a check engine light refers to either an electrical or air/fuel problem. I dont see this as serious, but get it checked out. It sounds like a knock sensor idk. And if you go to autozone you can buy the part and have soemone put it on. You buy from dealer you get overcharged. simple fact.First thing to check is the gas cap. Make sure it is threaded correctly and tight. If it is correct and tight then check gasket on the gas cap.
What are the symptoms of a blown head gasket or warped heard?
Funny but this is usually the problem.
I will agree with the other answers how ever dont just throw parts ot your vehicle. If the parts store cant give you a direct answer a local garage usually has the equiptment to test your o2 sensors and knock sensor. but in my opinion yes it sounds like you oxygen sensor or gas cap.
