Question:
it to replace the lifters?I been told i have a weak lifter because the engine taps loudly for about 5 seconds on cold start up.The warranty has expired on the engine because i've had it for a year. This tapping sound only happends when first started up in the morning. Can i just leave the lifter like this? The engine runs great and makes no noise after about 5-10 seconds after starting.Opinions anyone?Would you fix it or leave it?

Fix it, with this mileage you need to just have it done, make sure while they are doing it they check all the others on the same side. How do I remove the fuel pump in a Ford Contour 2000?
The alternate choice here is to run a heavier oil, you should be running 10w-30 now, you could try straight 30 weight or 20w-50 but I really really suggest you fix it, it could cause the truck to misfire down the road and then you will be fixing the motor again.

Leave it unless it gets worse. if it starts to worsen, replace it because it will eventually damage the camshaftSounds like a good time to upgrade to some vortec heads.

Chris R is right; The GM 350 is notorious for noisy starts. If the noise gets louder, or continues past the initial warm-up (about 1 minute) then I would think about some head work. A lot of times, it is just the shims that are used in the factory for the initial set-up of the engine. My blinker noise won't turn off - Relay switch?
Yea, you gotta lifter not pumping up...tell you what we would have tried at the GMC dealership..which we use BG additives, use the engine quick clean, you add it into the oil, and drive it for about 30 minutes, then change the oil...this works on the pressure side..and not return..it might help unstop the oil passage in the lifter, and even though you only have 3k miles on the truck, for one year, you still need to change the oil every 4 months at least.. and it sounds like you don't drive that much... with not driving the truck so hard, you could go to a lighter weight oil, 10W30.. As far as fixing it...you have to pull the intake manifold off and valve cover gaskets, and back the lifter off, and pull the push rod out and then you can pull the lifters out...If you have to change one them do them all...just for GP...good luck...Can running a car starter engine for a long period, damage the engine?
It won't hurt anything. Maybe they missed one when they initially tightened them down. Hard to believe it's bad at 3k miles. You could replace the bad one, once you crank it up and find it while it's running with the rocker cover off.
Make sure you put a few towels around the area to keep oil from getting everywhere.
Should I or should I not make my Dads insurance pay for damage to my car?
This is normally reserved for higher mileage engines, when sludge is the problem in the lifters, but it is safe for all engines. Try a product called Seafoam, available at auto part stores, in your oil. It's safe, and will clean your lifters out nicely. This has worked every time for me. Also, make sure you are using a heavy enough oil. Not a big deal overall though.More Questions & Answers ...
