Today morning as I was driving to job, my car gave some problem. As I gave gas, the car got raised but the car moved very slowly. Whenever I gave gas the car got raised with a booommm....sound but was moving only at 20 m/hour speed. The rpmx1000 was going to 4 -5. so I changed the gear position to 2 and and some how managed to reach office.
Car is: 1994 mitsubish Galant, miles: 180K. previously mechanic told me that the transmission of my car is in bad condition. Some of my friends told me I have to change time-belt. recently when I used to break at signals the engine used give kind of "jump"
my cat crawled up under the dashboard of my suzuki esteem. How do I get her out?
What could bethe problem with my car.

It sounds like a transmission problem. My Mustang used to do almost the same thing, not engaging right away, and slipping really bad. Get it rebuilt or replaced, but it could cost a pretty penny. Mine cost me 1500 dollars. It may be time to put the old Galant out to pasture and move on to a newer car with less mileage.Sounds to me like your mechanic is correct. Sounds like a transmission is going out. Might want to get it back to your mechanic before it goes all the way out. Or find other more reliable transportation while considering other alternatives.

i own a repair shop,and from what you just described to me ,id say your transmission just went out,that's usually the way they act when their going out ,you can check the fluid in it,and see if it has a burnt smell to it,and see if its a reddish brown color,if so this is the clutches,and bands burnt up in it,id have a good transmission mechanic look at it,but from my experience id say its going to have to be rebuilt,good luck,i hope this help,s.Sounds like transmission is slipping, and you have no 4th gear and eventually will have no trans at all. Plus if your timing belt is off timing your engine will be next, except that it will only do a ka-boom sound and off to the junk yard it will go.
First things first, check the transmission oil level. Bring it up to full mark,warm and running in park or neutral. Have it checked to see where it is leaking. Hopefully you have not already burnt a clutch pack.
