Question:
I have a 97 dodge Intrepid in good condition. My friend recently changed the belt in the uttermost front part of my car, the one with all the pulleys. I don't know the exact term for this. But he changed it and also sprayed it with some kind of stuff, also tightened the pulleys. The noise is high pitched and is there all the time, especially in damp weather. What could this be? Also, my engine makes a knocking noise, but if I put that seafoam stuff in my gas, it stops for a while. And my brakes squeak when I stop... Is this maybe a rock or dust in them? (I live down a gravel road) ANSWERS PLEASE, MECHANICS PLEASE!!

Most newer cars and trucks today use a single flat belt to drive all the accessories on the engine.. Some, but not all vehicles use an automatic belt tensioner to keep the belt tight.. This usually consists of nothing more than a small wheel mounted on a pivoting arm that has a spring wound on the back of it to push the wheel against the belt and keep it tight.. Unfortunately, it one of many engine parts that gets overlooked until it stops working.. Usually a couple shots of WD-40 on the spring and/or on the wheel loosens things up.. More than likely what's happening is 1. Cold weather thickens the grease in the wheels bearing and when you start the car the tensioner wheel doesn't turn as fast as the belt which causes the belt to "skid" on the wheel and make a high pitched squealing noise.. Or 2. the pivot arm & spring are rusted, corroded, caked with dirt, etc.,etc. and once again the belt is "skidding" on the tensioner wheel and squealing.. 3. Frequently if water gets on the tensioner wheel and the wheel isn't turning the same speed as the belt, again, skidding belt resulting in a squeal.. Suggest you have the belt tensioner checked out (if your cars engine has one ) Otherwise the belt may not be tight enough and needs to be taken up just a little more.. New drive belts stretch after being run for a couple hours.. An automatic tensioner takes up the belt stretch, but if your engine doesn't have one the belt will have to be tightened a little more by hand to make up for the stretch.. Not doing so will over-heat the belt and make it fail prematurely .. Without actually hearing the engine knock it's almost impossible to tell exactly what the cause is, could be any one of a number of things from minor to major, sorry.. Your squealing brakes could very well be caused by a small stone caught between a brake pad and the brake rotor.. Sometimes it's as simple as just backing the car up without touching the brake to dislodge a caught stone .. Another possible cause for brake squeal ; some cars are equipt with small metal sensors, or feeler that squeal when the brake pads are nearly worn out.. Ignoring them is dangerous ; do yourself (and possibly someone else, like a child running out in front of your car) a BIG favor, get your car to a brake shop, dealer, or trusted mechanic and get your brakes checked out....... just to be on the safe side.. Your life or the life of a child is worth far more than the cost of a set of new brakes ..Sorry this is so long, better you have too much information than someone who shruggs their shoulders and says, " I don't know, it's nothing to worry about, it'll be o.k. ".. Better to be safe than sorry and/or pay me now or pay me later.. Latter ALWAYS costs MORE !! Good luck
cause for ford taurus fuel pump failure...?
I would say that your noise is because one or more of your pulleys may be worn out. Check the tension on the belts, if you can moce the belt more than 1/2" by hand then it is still too loose.I would say that you need to also switch to a higher octane rated fuel.
If you are driving in dusty conditions and the weather is damp you may experience some noise in your brakes.
If you have new drive belts and the belt lube doesn't get rid of the squeak, it might be one of the pulleys with bearings going bad. Or, the belt is loose and needs to be tightened. A power steering pump might be low on fluid or is going bad as well. Squeaking brakes could be dust or could be worn or normal. I should be checked to be sure.
What is the best way to get sticky stuff off of a window?
Hmm...could be something as simple as a loose belt. But if it happens ALL the time, the barrings could be going out in your alternator, or compressor.shift selector real hard to go into park?
Knocking? Hmm...

Breaks squeek? Depends on the break pads. Asbestos pads always squeek. However, there is something that intentionally makes your breaks squeek to indicate that you need new break pads too.
will a power steering rack off a 91 cav fit on a 94 Astra?

wheels on fun factor buggy turn opposite ways?
never heard of belt lube.new belts do not need anything sprayed on them(belt dressing is sticky and prevents slippage)
he may not have the belt on straight. it's grooved and may be rubbing. that is easier checked. he may have over tightened the pulleys, or tightened a bad one that looked loose(bad bearing).
knocking could be gas related, use better gas.
brake squeal could be caused from wear indicators. have it looked at. you did not specify miles or if you have had them replaced b4.
I had an intrepid a 98, and it did the same thing. It ended up being just as Blue said above.

WHERE can you buy ELBOW-GREASE?
excuse me! but, there is more then one question!!the name of the belt is serpentine belt.
that specific belt don't need being tensioned by mechanic it has a pulley with an spring in it self that give the necessary tension to the belt..SO,,,,,one of the pulleys is stuck(bearing?)
do not use additives on belts.....and because You already did...spray soapy water on it and then hose it up.
Does it matter which type of caliper I get for my car?
brakes noisy! two types
first brakes pads has from factory one little piece of metal protruding from the base metal toward the rotor(disc) when the pad has wear out the metal touch the rotor and make a constant noise
second:when the brakes pads are being installed "the mechanic"need to put an small film of paste silicone on the back metal plate of the brake pads(meaning, the silicone will be between pushing piston and the metallic plate)
this type of noise is not constant.this is the one You have.
