Why do my new tires make so much noise?

Question:
They're brand new, is it the tread? My 2001 Alero sounds like a race car and the noise is very annoying. Also, unrelated, what could a vibration under floor of the gas/brake petals be? Drive shaft?

It probably is tread noise. The more aggressive the tread is, particularly on passenger tires, the greater the possibility they can hum when you're driving. Sometimes, it can be the road surface, but it's usually the tread.

The vibration can be a bunch of things. Does it happen all the time when your driving or just when you're applying the brakes? An Alero is a front drive car, so you don't have a drive shaft, you have a trans-axle and everything is under the hood area at the front. If you can feel the vibration when applying the brakes, maybe your front rotors aren't true anymore, but that would also make your steering wheel shimmy when stepping on the brakes. If the vibration happens at a particular speed, but not all the time, one or more wheels may be out of balance. There could be a lot of reasons for vibration, but since you just got new tires, I'd start with the balance and mounting of the tires. You'll eventually find the problem through a process of elimination. Good luck!

Speedometer on 1990 Olds Calais doesn't work?

the balance or alignment is off. when i got new tires one of them was off maybe a degree or something small like that, and the whole car was just vibrating to the point it made me want to puke. just bring it back and tell them its vibrating and squeeling and you'd like them to rebalance and align them.

what are the four main functions of a transmission?

my dads car's tires used to make a ton of noise....it kinda sounded like something was wobbeling ...it was really low, i always thought it was the engine but he got new tires and now they are really quiet, and they don't make any noise.

Sometimes it is the tire - comfort versus performance. Check tirerack.com for your particular tire and see if others have had complaints/issues with them.

If it is not that, then check the tires to see if they show any signs of uneven wear or scuffing. Should your tires have been poorly balanced or the balance weight not stay on, it can make a loud noise. This would be the case with probably only one tire.

As far as your vibration issues, I think you need to give additional information.

What can we do to start our Citroen?

there could be many reasons for this. 1.you might have a aggressive treaded tire 2.certain tires need time to "break in" and soften up 3.you dont have a proper set bead 4.something could be mis-alligned

you did not say what brand or size of tire. but i assume that most aleros came with a low profile tire. hard compounds and cheap tires make for more road noise.

If you have 16-inch wheels then the tire you bought is probably a Yokohama AVID V4s. These are not particularly prone to be noisy, especially when new so I suspect something else is really the root cause.

my car alarm remote light stays on eventhough it works fine, but the LED stays on on one remote control. Why?

Have the alignment checked first. If that is way off it can cause uneven wear that promotes noise.
