What's causing the noise when I cold start my engine?

Question:
When I first start up my engine I hear a ticking sound..it goes away after a few minutes, but I don't want it to get worse. Anybody have any idea what's going on, and how I can fix it if possible?

How much would it be to put a dual exhaust on a truck?

Thanks!

How long does it take to change the status from L1 visa to H1 visa and simultaneously apply for green card?

It sounds like the lifters inside the engine. They will do this if they are lacking oil. Try a lighter grade of oil in the engine.

Lifting a truck?

low oil presure untill it warms up the oil

I have a 96 Mustang and my check engine light keeps coming on.?

It is a stuck lifter. Change your oil, substituting 1 quart with an oil conditioner. Run it about 800 miles and then change your oil again. Change your oil regularly after this.

Why wont my ford3000 tractor start without starter fluid?

the ticking noise is more then likely the lifters pumping back up with oil. sounds like you may have a bleeding lifter or lifters after it has set for the night. in order to fix that problem it requires the removal of the intake, valve covers and rocker arms to replace the lifter or lifters. Im just guessing here since i cant hear the noise myself. but it does sound like what your have a problem with to me... what size and type of motor... I know alot of fords and chevy's will get this problem

Whats wrong with my cavalier?

Could be a few things... Ticking...Make sure you have oil in the engine... also could be the gas your buying...If I was able to hear your car, Im sure I would know what it was.
Try putting in a gas additive in your tank and see if the ticking stops, if it does, then that means your engine has a water build up from the gas your putting in your car (crap gas).
Also make sure you have plenty of oil in your car.

Which place is better to get struts worked on for a 2003 FOrd Taurses , Firestone autocare , or Sears?

It's the lifters, the oil needs to reach the top of the engine before it quits. Use a additive that coats the engine so you don't have dry starts or use synthetic oil this does the same but cost more. If you ask a repair shop they will say it's no good. This is because when they work on engines that use this oil they have to get the coating off extra work for them. But the less dry parts in the motor when you start it the longer it will last, also increases fuel mileage 5-10%.
