Question:
starts up then dies after a couple of sec. {454 TBI} Also anyone know where i can find the wiring diagram on the net
Answers:
Is there a web site i can go to that will tell me estimates for getting work done on my jeep?
Did you replace the engine with another engine of the same size??Was there an original 454 in it or was there something smaller like a 350 in it??If there was originally a 350 in it.The throttle body and computer is NOT compatible from a 350 to a 454.Post some more info on the subject please.Maybe i can help some more.I also just replaced an engine in an 87 gm truck also but is was a 350 tbi and had numerous problems to track down.Does anyone know what it costs to replace a waterpump on a 2003 cavalier ,?
-update-- make sure your throttle position sensor is working correctly is none of the above applies to you.
--update-- Make sure when you adjust your timing you warm your engine up and disconnect the brown est wire located up by the firewall.I run my truck at 4 deg before tdc.A vacuum leak is also possible.Check the hoses running to your MAP sensor and EGR valve and anything else that has a vacuum line hooked to it. The IAC valve could also be dirty or just bad.You can just unscrew the iac valve from the throttle body and clean it up.When i did my setup,i replaced all the electronics and sensors and that was very expensive. But after i replaced every sensor i could find, the trouble i was having ended up being my fuel pump. This kind of problem can vary so much since the problem your having can be tracked down to many different things. Is your check engine light coming on at all?? Well if it is then run a code scanner through it.But yes, check all your vacuum lines to ALL the components and clean the IAC valve and see what happends. It should only take a few minutes.
Can you use a dual plane intake for mpfi or do you have to use a singleplane?
Does it ever run? Or just starts and runs for a few seconds and shuts off? You may have a fuel or air metering issue. You could also have a weak fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter. There could also be a loose connection in the harness for the computer. Sometimes if the Oil pressure sensor does not send the correct pressure to the computer the computer will shut the system down. Hope this helps.More Questions & Answers ...
