i just bought a 1998 mitsubishi 3000gt, its my first car and the clear coat is gone on it. i was waxing/polishing the car and i was taking paint off while i was doing this. i was curious about how many times u can paint a car, bc being in college money is pretty tight, i was thinking about getting the best paint option you could get at maaco and have that last me a couple years till i finish pre-med, then get a real paintjob.

Unlimited...The car can all ways be taken down to bare metal / fiber glass and repainted. Maaco's not bad for the money...

i own a repair and restoration shop,and you can paint it as many times as you want too ,,it can always be sanded off or stripped off of it,,but having paint on it wont hurt it,,i have painted cars before that was painted 4 times before,,i could count the layers as i stripped it off,but it wont hurt it,have a cheapy put on it now,and later have a good one done,,good luck with it,hope this help,s.happy new years also.As many times as you want, but you would need to get that base coat and clear coat off and use a good enamel paint like Imron. Don't go for that base-clear coat. The Imron will shine and last for years! Done it myself several times.

Unfortunately, Hawk996, dodge man, countrybo...and Black S don't give good advice. A car cannot practically be painted numerous times and stripped to the metal. This is not economically feasible, for reasons stated above. Labor is the majority cost for paint and stripping paint is major very labor intensive.

I recommend that you live with the poor paint on your 3000gt (by the way a gem of a car) until you can afford a first class job. This will run at least $2K and probably more. Don't get sucked in by a crappy $600 Macco (or other) paint job.

you can paint your car as many times as you want, but would have to agree with (marccrott) . you realy don't want to strip it to bare metal bacause a lot car manufactures put a rust enhibiter on the entire body of the car before it is painted and if you go to bare metal than you have lost the best protection against rust . a good painter will remave any loose material and prep the suface without haveing to go to bare metal . so save your money keep the car clean get agood paint job"as they all say you get what you pay for(cheaper isn't always better)"More Questions & Answers ...
