If you haven't driven the car very fast or very much recently, it may have carbon buildup in the valves and pistons. This may relieve the problem.

sounds like the lifter are going bad have you checked the oil cus when the oil is low you can hear them tappingLifters come in two basic flavors: mechanical (solid) and hydraulic. If mechanical they can (should) be properly adjusted. However, even if out of adjustment, the tapping is not harmful, but will effect engine performance somewhat. Hydraulic lifters are not adjustable, but depend on engine oil to 'pump them up'. When the engine is cold, it is possible that a 'sticky' lifter may be noisy. As the engine warms up and oil pressure increases, the lifter may become quiet.
