Gas on top of fuel pump after filling car. I had the fuel pump replaced b4 this started. 1st guy cut a hole.

Question:
So he wouldn't have to drop the tank, didn't tell me just cut a hole around the fuel pump. 02 Ford Focus btw, so had someone else install the fuel pump. Any idea on why I would have gas sitting on top of fuel pump after filling the tank? Can I just unscrew the top and screw it back on? 6 wks w/out it running at all, not the gas smell makes ya dizzy!

first guy cut hole in trunk? there is a rubber o-ring type gasket that is probably installed wrong,or maybe even gone. have someone alittle more competant look at it. dont drive it til problem is resolved. also, i would take the guy that cut the hole to small claims court.
