HiYou can't really do anything without spending unfortunately, but here's some ideas anyway:-
If it has the BOSCH ECU you can have it invisibly chip tuned via the OBDII DLC (On Board Diagnostics Data Link Connector) in the glove box which is undetectable, otherwise, if it is the Siemens system then you would have to have a chip fitted, which IS detectable unfortunately. Have a look on EBAY, there are companies who will come to your door and do it for you. It costs about £200 or thereabouts.
You can fit a stainless steel exhaust system such as Magnex, Scorpion, etc, which costs an arm, a leg, and a kidney!!

You can fit a cold air induction kit but the major gain would be noise. You may feel a better take off but that would be about it, and that would be over the £100 mark for the privelidge!
The best gain would be from a chip tune which was my first option above.

i would shorten the fuel line, remove the fuel filter, and higher the revs in the engine, if not ,just duble clutch when in 4 gear for a speed boost,
