Question:
In cold weather I don't have trouble opening my car door, but then the door will not close after I get in. It appears that the cold weather has frozen the mechanism. I have used lock de-icer on the keyhole, but it has no effect. I have also used lubricating oil. Any ideas?

first, you must clean the lock and the latch on the door and the well where it closes. then find some white lithium grease and spray liberally to the latch and where the door meets the body, also wipe down all seals with a rag with the grease on it. then get some graphite to put into the lock and voilla! you will never ever have this problem again. you can pick up these items at a hardware store or auto supply counterHave you cleaned and lubed the latch that locks over the striker on the door pillar, if not try that.

If cdnguy means you are from Canada you should know about this stuff. With the windows closed and the heater on let it run for about an hour. Get a can of WD-40 , with the straw supplied, the little red thing, and soak the mechanism. Open the window and get down inside the back edge of the door through the window well. Soak the lock and release mechanism. Careful of the upholstery. That should do it for the winter. Door closed, window closed, heat on will thaw the lock out....More Questions & Answers ...
