How can you tell if a mechanic is ripping you off?
these are known for having a poor connection at the crank sensor plug connector. the sensor is mounted at the top of the transmission where it meets the engine, about 11 o'clock. there is a two wire harness that runs up to the back/top side of the intake manifold. it is a black connector with 3 places for wires, but only two wires are in it. just unplug it, then plug it back in and see if it fires. if so, clean the terminals the best you can and you shouldnt have any more probs. e-mail me if you have trouble locating the connector.What's causing my 98 Windstar's Engine to knock?

i own a repair shop,and the first thing id do if i knew for sure it was getting gas is check it for fire,and if its getting fire then i might look at the timing on it,but it sounds like you have no fire to the plugs at all on it check the cap and rotor button real good,this will knock out all fire to all of the plugs,and so will a control module ,and there located in the distributor,they will go dead all at once,and cause what yous is doing,if none of this helps you may have to have it took to a shop ,good luck hope this helps.

I had a 89 jeep cheroke that had the same problem it took a while to figure out but it was the top dead centre sensor that is located on the drivers side top of the tranny bellhousing .very hard to change with out having it on a hoist.it cost me about $100.00 to have it changed

I have seen this before. A mechanic did what crazy said, just unplugged the top dead center sensor, then plugged it in, and what do you know? vrooooom. I bet those guys are right about the sensor on the transmission bell housing.
