Why does my "DOOR AJAR" warning light keep going on?

Question:
I have a 2000 Ford Expedition. It seems that the open door warning keeps going on. I know the doors are closed and often I go around the vehicle and slam all the doors and even the hatch. Sometimes this solves the problem and sometimes not. I'm wondering if it is a sensor of some sort or something else.

This is a common problem with the Fords, I don't know what Ford calls it but its the door light switch, the four doors have the same switch and the hatch has a different one, they are cheap and easy to replace, the trick is finding the one at falt. I think the one in the tailgate is built into the latch you may have to consult a Ford tech, sorry I'm a GM guy.

You got that right, one of the button switches is going bad. it's probably getting wet and causing a misread that you see as door ajar.

Sounds to me like you have a short somewhere. Have you taken it to a repair shop and have diognostics run? It could be a sensor or something simple.

it's just a sensor on one of the doors or the back hatch. i've had explorers and rangers and @ some point they all have that problem. if you felt like replacing them yourself you could purchase new sensors from your dealer or hit up a local salvage yard . there's a truck/suv only salvage yard near my house and i frequently go there for parts.
