my rear brakes locked up on as i was going down the highway very dangerous the tow truck pushed me to the side of the road but it was hard after i sat there for a minute i was able to back up and drive for a minute then the brakes locked up again what is causing this please help any mechanics

you might have a bad rear axle

you need to put the rear up on axle stands and pull both rear wheels to examine the brakes.You might have a problem with wheel bearings instead of brakes.
If you have drum brakes there is usually a return spring that pulls the brake shoe off the drum when you let the brake pedal up , if thats damaged you can have all sorts of problems.
