If you have antifreeze inside your combustion chamber, you most definitely have a blown head gasket or a cracked head/block. An easy follow up test is to run the car with the radiator cap off, once the car heats up enough to open the thermostat coolant will either bubble up like champagne, or blow out of the radiator depending on how bad it is. If there's enough coolant in the cylinder for you to notice it I'd imagine your problem is in the "coolant blowing out the radiator" league.

What kind of damage is done to a 1.4 16v ecotec engine when the cambelt breaks?

Year, make and engine would help. If it is a GM 3.8L it is most likely the upper intake plenum leaking.
Coolant in the cylinder does not always mean head gasket.
