The pupose of the knock sensor is to retard your timing if the engine begins to ping. Ping is caused by advanced timing. Or it is possible if you have any kind of engine noise like lifter or rod knock that the knock sensor will mistake this for a ping. The knock sensor produces its own voltage to send to the computer if it senses a ping. If you know of someone with a volt meter you can check it. unplug the sensor( have to find first usually on th block with a single wire connector. possitive from volt meter on sensor and negative on ground. Now tap on the block next to the sensor and you should read a low voltage I think about 1 volt. If this works the sensor is good and you may have a wiring or computer problem thats a different story.
