I had a similar problem with my Corolla. The solution was to hold down the trip reset button, put in the key and turn the ignition, then let go of the button. Hope your Tacoma is similar.

You would need an OBD-II reader. There are special computers that you can plug in to a specific socket on your truck and you can remove the problem code from the truck's computer. In short, you need to clear the trouble code from the truck's diagnostic computer. Even though you fixed the problem, the history is still there.
