Question:
i am good at confusing readers. ok, the part that needs to be replaced, leaks coolant from the radiator causing the engine to overheat when it has expeled all the coolant. it is not directly connected to the radiator but from the engine to the back firewall. there are two sets of hoses, assuming that one moves coolant one direction and the other the opposite. they run on top of each other. the part that is leaking is the "elbow" of the line. there are two, but only the bottom one is leaking. we have to remove the top one to get to the bottom one to replace it. very old, and corroded parts here! takes some strength to separate the hoses. i found 3 sets of numbers on one end of one of the part that i need to replace>>>> SF 49H 18C266 R8 <<<,but could not get any information on the part other than it a heater hose. there are several hoses connected in this assembly and we need the name of this exact part to be able to order it.

Michael C is correct, replace both heater hose's.If you describe the component to the parts manager at a local Ford dealer, and they should be able to look it up.
Since this is probably the original hose, around ten years old, it makes sense to replace all components at the same time. Otherwise the odds are great that you'll need to do the same thing again for each separate piece, requiring coolant replacement every time.
In city driving, should I be in D,1,2,or 3? (gear, auto transmission)?
first thing i have to ask hows the heater in the van working?.these hoses sound like they go to the heater core, is the core leaking? if they are just elbow pipes i would not go to ford to replace them. any hard ware store sells 1/2 pipe its cheaper go to an auto wrecker cut them out of another van.....or it could be if this van has a rear heater may be those hoses are leaking.More Questions & Answers ...
