Question:
I have a 97 toyota avalon. A few days ago I plugged my cell phone into my charger thats plugged into the cigarette lighter and it shorted out the radio clock and temperature controls. I replaced the fuse but it keeps shorting out after I replace it. Any solutions?

any recommendation for changing the transmission fluid on a volvo in smyrna ga?
If the fuse doesn't blow and the car accessories work ok when you don't plug anything into the cigarette lighter, then try plugging something other than your charger into the lighter socket like your ipod charger etc. The idea is to make sure your cell phone and/or charger isn't blowing the fuse for some reason. If the fuse blows now even with nothing plugged into the cigarette lighter, you apparently have developed a short circuit in the lighter receptacle. If you can disconnect the wire from the lighter and the fuse doesn't blow anymore, you know you need to replace or repair the lighter receptacle.
Fix my 98 Civic or Buy a new car?
DISCONNECT THE CIGAR LIGHTER WIRES RECHANGE FUSE AND RECHECK THE LIGHTER MAY BE AT FAULTIn the lighter socket, the prongs (+) have been bent so they touch the case (-). You can bend them back away with a small tool, and all will be well.
