Question:
The Owner's manual says to put in 5W-20. That seems awfully light weight to me. I live in an area that has mild winters, but can get pretty hot in the summer. Wouldn't a higher weight oil be more suitable, like 10W-30?
What's wrong with my oil pressure?
Is there something about this engine that requires a lower weight oil?

P0420...this is the code that popped up when i checked my car?
Go with the owners manual. Ford designed and built the engine. They know better than anyone what should go in it. Ford has been recommending 5W20 oil in most of its vehicles for 6 years now and many other manufacturers such as Honda, Mazda and Chrysler have followed suit. On your particular vehicle, 5W20 is according to my information, the ONLY weight of oil that should be used, irregardless of weather. My GEO 1.0 loses power and makes a varoom sound, sometimes back fires,?
As an added incentive to stick with what Ford says you should use, the local Ford dealer service manager informed me that not using the correct oil weight WILL void your engine warranty.

Go with the manual on this one. If you do want to go up in weight, don't go higher than 5W-30.How do you determine if your car is a lemon year?
you can put that in it. heres how it works. the 10w is the weight of the oil or how heavy it is. The 30 is the viscosity or thickness and this is what matters most. In 4 cylinder cars the viscostiy will have more of an effect when increased on the motor then the weight of the oil. Moving up and down one notch wont effect it to much, but in the winter months, will slow the rotation of the motor in turn making the car work harder and wearing the motor down more quickly.Do I have to remove any major components to install a new EGR system on my 95 Ford Ranger?
no just 5w 30If it gets over 100F, 10W30 would be good. As long as you don't go under 10F, you don't need 5W20.
If you're really worried about the heat, go with synthetic. 5W20 syn will protect better than 5W20 regular oil.

5w-30 would be the right choice, and I would recommend Schaeffer Oil which lasts about 10,000 miles!all newer fords use 5w-20, but all depends where you live
in colder weather, you usually want to use a 10w-30, but in the summer switch to a 5w. oil
