I have a 3.0 1998 vauxhall omega, when I put it in gear (Auto box) it is as if their is no power?

Question:
the switch for the speed mode is not working either is it poss that it connected. Any ideas?

Every time i go some where (15 miles) or so i have to wait 30 mins be for i can leave .?
