Not sure if anyone else is having these problems:
Would it be really expensive to get an old car that runs, but needs to be restored?
1) It jerks to get into the next gear while I'm on the road (to the point where it has loosened my overhead light).

2) It tends to need anti-freeze quite often (example: I had an oil change and the next week my indicator light for low anti-freeze came on).
Gas guage not working correctly?
3) I'll be at a complete stop and it will accelerate.
Where can i send a car picture to get it looked at.?
4) It will not start after driving it for more than 20 miles; however, the battery is fine, there's no sign of a weak battery when turning the ignition. It will start back up after a few hours.
I've been told that the jerking is caused by a motor mount and I've also been told that it's caused by the valve body. As for it not starting after having it on for a while, I read it was the solenoid.

I've been diligent about maintenance. I left my car at 7-11 tonight, because it wouldn't start after coming back from a semi-long commute. I would appreciate any any advice.

The jerking is not the engine mount, but could be the valve body. Try to drain and fill the transmission with new Dexron 3 ATF and a new filter. Hopefully that will help. If not, you might need to swap or clean the valve body.

As for antifreeze, you either have a leak in the radiator or a leaking water pump. If you notice a puddle behind the passenger wheel, it's the water pump. If not, it's more than likely the radiator. A common leak is up on the upper part of the radiator on the driver's side, where the plumbing comes back from the engine (usually the plastic cracks).

Problem #3 If it accelerates at a complete stop, it may be an ignition problem... so either clean or replace the coils, or change the spark plugs and wires (maybe even both). Try these:

Another thing your problem number 3 could be, is a bad ECTS (Electronic Coolant Temperature Sensor)... but is less likely because they fixed most of those after the 2000 model year. You might want to change it anyway, as it's only a $10-20 part and is as easy to change as a spark plug (but sideways).

What do I have to do, or replace to change my car from automatic to manual?
1) I get the same behaviour in my 2001 Saturn SC1 from 1st to 2nd but only on occasion. Never really found it so bad as to be annoying or dangerous, but probably should be checked by a mechanic.How does one install air horns in his automobile?

3) It could be that the computer is telling the engine that the mix is too lean and it adds more gas to the engine. When you say accelerate, you mean that it suddenly revs a bit higher (or a lot higher)?

4) Not starting once the engine is warm could be a solenoid, or some sort of switch misbehaving. My old 1985 Grand Am had something similar, except it was so severe that you could be driving down the highway and suddenly the engine would cut off! That turned out to be the C3I (Computer Controlled Coil Ignition) module.

I would doubt that the motor mount would have anything to do with the jerking. The motor mount is a metal clamp that is covered in a thick hard black rubber. When the motor mount wears out, the engine may sit slightly off balance, and the thin rubber could lead to a rough vibration that you would feel when idling. Unless the engine is leaning so much on one side to affect the transmission, it should not cause the car to jerk.
Only problem I ever really noticed with the Saturn I have was that when the gas tank is almost on empty (even before the red gas light goes on) if I take a curve or highway exit and I am turning right too quickly, the car feels like it is about to stall. In fact, it did stall one time when I tried to accelerate too quickly. It's almost like the fuel pump was poorly positioned to extract the gas from the tank and so all the fuel sloshes to one side, causing me to "momentarily" run out of gas. So now I just try not to let it get too low.

Hi there,I have a 2001 Saturn SL, and it sounds as if your car is doing the same thing mine was doing a few months ago.The keys would rub against the inside of the ignition and it caused the car not to start when you turn the key. My husband had to replace the ignition. He pulled the steering wheel off and installed a new cylinder ignition switch. It would have cost over $600.00 to replace through a shop.
