Would it be worth it to replace an engine on a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, excellent body, than to junk it?

Question:
My husband wants to junk it basically and get another jeep maybe a little newer than spend the money on the one we already have. The 1991 is automatic, 4wd excellent body, no rust no dents and paint job is perfect. What would be the better thing to do?

The best thing to do is compare costs and life expectancy of each choice. If you were to replace the engine, how long would you be able to keep the vehicle without more major work? What is the cost of the engine replacement?

I need information on converting an automatic 86 c10 to a standard transmission?

Take the cost of the replacement, and divide that by the amount of time you anticipate being able to keep the vehicle. For example, if the motor replacement is $900 and you expect to be able to keep the jeep for another year and a half (18 months) your cost factor would be $50/ month.

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram with a turbo diesel,?

How much will a replacement vehicle cost? How long would you be able to keep it? Again for an example, you pay $4800 for a newer Jeep, and think that you will be able to keep it for 4 years. (48 months) Your cost would be $100 / month.

Can anyone recommend an engineer who could determine how long a car suspension part had been cracked?

Look at the figures, and decide what other factors (the desire to have a new car, comfort level) apply and you can make an informed choice!

If it were me, I think it's always wise to replace an engine since it's much cheaper than buying a whole new vehicle. But I'm not a mechanic.

Replace the entire car.

1993 acura legend with antifreeze smell only at idle?

Buy a used engine so that the car can be sold and then sell it. There are many other things that can go wrong with a vehicle that old and the 1991 Jeeps didn't have a great record.

How do I remove a deep scratch from a car?

depends on the condition of the rest of it...the body is just looks. Engines get pricey. Check condition of transmission, interior, shocks, wheel bearings, brakes ETC before doing all that work. Sometimes its better to buy something new or almost new with a warranty. Old vehicles can become an unreliable money pit.

i want to know about how much it would cost to change my honda civic ex by converting from auto to manual?

Well, Get a machanic to see what the problem is first, may not be all that bad. it can also rebuild it. Rebuilt is cheaper than a new engine. Also, if you just have to get rid of it, try ebay, people buy cars there all the time. Make sure you tell them in doesnt run. A lot of people would like to have that jeep and repair it. But its def cheaper to rebuild or get a new engine vs buying a brand new one.

Question about tubeless tyre?

It all depends on the cost. If you can find a decent low milage engine that will fit cheaper than getting a slightly newer vehicle I would definately go with the replacement engine simply because you know how the rest of the car has been maintaned.

1993 Buick Century 3.3L - Will not start, has new battery, altenator, and main computer...?

If everything is as good as you say and the interior is the same way and you really like it, just get the motor rebuilt. Would be cheaper than new vehicle. But If you can even get it running good enough then sell it and use money for new one.

how much would it cost to get a body kit installed and painted on a 92 eclipse?

You left one thing out. How many miles are on it? It is 1991, it probably has over 200,000 miles on it, unless you live near Chicago where all of the cities are really close together. If you are in California- you will do more driving-don't risk it. It is too old to get a new engine in it. How long do you think a new engine will last? The jeep is over 10 years old. It is time to upgrade to at least a 1997 or better. You don't want to put money into something and then have a sunk cost (say the engine goes bad fast?) Better to buy a preowner car from one owner or get one right off the lot. But then again, if you get a 2007, you will lose money too. The vaule will do way down once you drive it off of the lot. Lastely, it is up to you and your husband.

One headlight in my 1995 Toyota Avalon burned out, what's an estimate of how much it will cost to get fixed?

yes it would be worth it to spend the 2 grand and replace the engine then to junk it you would barely have enough for a down payment if you sold it as is. fix what you have and keep going, and to the person that said jeeps are unreliable tell me how much longer my 1976 jeep cherokee chief is going to last with over three hundred thousand on it

gm th-350 tranny. goes in reverse but no forward gears? what can be done to fix it?

'91 does have a little age on it, but do you folks share it or is it yours, if you mainly drive it and don't mind the age then definitely try and convince him to have another motor installed or rebuilt -- your bill is gonna be around $900 to $1100 depending on who your mechanic is, junking your car is gonna get you around $100 to $130, if you literally take it to a scrap yard -- you could try selling it disclosing that it has a bad motor -- you wait for one of those push, pull, or drive sales at a dealership and use it as a trade

I have a 2001 mercury 15 hp and when i start the motor after about 3 mins the oil filter gasket blows out.?

in a car especially old junk, the most important part is its body n not the engine, cos u can change any engine u like with small modification.so in ur case, the body is still good it's worth to replace an engine indeed.1991 jeep cherokee is a reliable vehicle.
it's better 4 u to keep it rather than u buy a new one 4 the same usage only.

Why did my serpentine belt snap?

best wishes.

I just want the problem fixed?

Just go to the junk yard and get another engine and have a shop put it in. Or if you know someone that can even better. If you still want the car then why get rid or it.
