How can I tell if I just need to replace the muffler bracket, and how would I do so?

Get some good ceramic pads. They do make a brake dust shield that fits between your wheel and rotor so your wheels do not get dust on them.I personally have never used these shields. There was a rumor going around that said the shields prevent brake dust from getting on the wheels but your brake overheat as well since there is less airflow getting to them. They sell these shileds at your local parts shop (bigger places such as Autozone etc etc). You may get away with the shields with no problems but i never tried any or had any use for any but your best bet is to switch to a GOOD set ceramic pads. There is a lot less dust with good ceramic pads but they are also a bit costly.Good luck. Here is a link to check out the shields for your vehicle--
