Question:
95 cavalier 2 door auto with 100,592miles...
electrical system seems to be going bad or something.
On ocassion the instrument panel lights and gages stop working and will not lite up.. along with the headlites..
car hesitates at times when trying to accelerate and when shifting from park to drive it sometimes sticks..
ground wires/connections have been checked several times.
mechanic claims its the computer and will cost me between $700-$900.. can anyone advise what would be so expensive?

there is a computer called the BCM (Body Control Module) that controls all your lights, power accesories, and theres the PCM (powertrain Control Module) this computer recieves information from sensors (Oxygen, throttle Position, Vehicle speed etc.) and sends information to actuators( injectors,gas pump, transmission solenoids) You said you had lighting problems most probaly The BCM is the one you need. Those do run higher than $800, you could go to a junk yard and find a deccent cavalier and get it cheaper.It's a cavalier

i think spiderman is right , and there is also a suggestion. did you check the switch for lights too. if there is some loose contact or problem inside then it can be a cause of this problem too. its just another idea. thanks.Chevy Lumina sluggish when accelerating, engine ticking noise?
