I have a buick century sedan 2001 and they use standard oil for my oil changes usually I go every 3000 or less but is it bad to go lets say 400-500 miles over that then get it done or is it going to cause big damage usually they tell me after the oil change it looked ok but should be changed 3000 miles which I do the manual says roughly 3000 oh and the car only has 39,394 miles on it both road and highway use

I would not be concerned about it. Actually, most newer cars like yours can easily go 7,000 miles without an oil change. Especially if you do mostly highway driving which isn't as rough on the engine.it also depends on time, it's 3 months OR 3000 miles. if the oil still looks ok than it should be fine to go a few hundred miles over.

Auto manufactures very when to change oil and filter. If you change oil and filter between 3000 and 4000 miles your Buick will last a long time.It dosent really go by the mileage, at 3000-5000 the oild should be dirty enough to change. If your oil still looks clean enough to get some more miles out of, at 3000 then you can go a little longer. I change my oil when it start getting brown. My vehicle have never seen black oil. No, 4-500 miles won't make a difference, but I still say keep with the 3,000 mile increments. An oil change takes all of 15 minutes and costs $10-15 when you do it yourself. With your car's manual saying 3,000 miles, you should continue to change it at 3,000 miles, not 5,000-7,500. If your car is still under warranty, they can argue that you neglected your engine if you let it go further than 3,000 miles per change as recommended...if something happens to it, you may void the warranty. Make sure you're changing your filter too.Oh, and if you are putting on less than 3,000 miles in 3 months, then do it every 3 months instead.
