I came across some tire's today and the size on the tire reads 220/55/390 what kind of tire size is this and what type of vehicle do they go on?

that tire size is the old metric size tire Michelin made for a very few selected sports cars in the mid 80's from ford mustangs to BMW. The 390 mm wheel will only fit a 390 mm tire that why a majority of people converted over to 14 inch wheel to fit their vehicle because the price and availability of the 390' s is expensive and few unlike the 14 inch tire which is a dime a dozen.
