Was wondering if there is something I could purchase to put into a car so that it will become a 24 valve??
Answers:
i have a 1979 cadillac sedan deville and the defrost wont work?
That would be a lot of work, but it is possible depending on the type of car you have. If the car has a 24 valve version, then you can swap the heads. There could be a lot of problems swapping them, and there may need to be a lot of fabrication done. It just depends a lot, some would be a lot easier to swap then others. Also many other components of the engine would have to be looked at and addressed. It would be a challenge in most cases, even if it did seem to come across as a easier swap, you would have to look at your ecu, sensors, oil, belts, cam gears, and even the internals of the motor if you are running more horse power. Sometimes they put cast pistons in the SOHC versions and forged in the DOHC. I would rate it at least as hard as doing a complete engine build, if you feel comfortable with that, then maybe it is worth a go. Also I am assuming that you are talking about a four valves 4 per cylinder in a V6 correct? and you may currently have 12 or 18? There would not really be a huge benefit in getting 24 valves over 16 in a V8. It would help, but not nearly as much as doing other things. Any "True" hemi can only have 2 valves per cylinder yet produce some pretty incredible numbers, so if you have a V8 you can work a lot with the size. Smaller engines however need to be more efficient to make big numbers so it would be more understandable. Besides a swap you would have to custom build heads which would be an extremely hard task. Probably hundreds of hours of work just to attempt it, so if you can not swap heads, I do not see any it is really possibly. I personally would just look for a DOHC model that has 4 valves per cylinder already. I have seen people with SOHC models that put all kinds of money into their car trying to make them faster, but the end result is that it is not that impressive and for all the money and work they invested they could have bought a DOHC model and had a much faster car with a lot less work. Also I would look at Turbo cars if you do decide to go that route. They are even more efficient, and yield a lot more potential. For example in many cars you can buy a boost controller and turn up the psi's 2-6lbs and pick up 15-60hp just by spending a few bucks. Many can even can more then double there horse power with turbos, though many other components like fuel injectors, fuel pump, pistons, oil, crank, air, cooling air and fluids(intercooler/radiator), gaskets, transmission, along with a number of other things, depending on how much you increase your psi's. But most of these cars have efficient heads, and if you find a car with 4 valves per cylinder (24v v6), you can also have it ported to see even bigger gains. Personally I would look for another car, just my 2 cents but it would be a challenge to say the least to do a swap of heads...well good luckmy nissan sentra is only going in two gears ,its an automatic car #GA16?
You'll just have to buy a vehicle that has a 24 valve engine man.More Questions & Answers ...
