What would make my 96 escort lx run rough after cam sensor replaced?

They removed the intake manifold to replace the cam sensor and put new gaskets on but the engine is running very rough

"Running" rough as when out on the road, or just idling rough? Makes a big difference.

My recollections from under that hood tell me that there's no way to get that sensor out of a 1.9L without it hitting the intake manifold, so that was legit. There's no adjustment on these sensors, so that can be eliminated as a potential source for your problem.
