Why does my 94 Intrepid die when its idleing or when I put it in gear?

I own a 94 Dodge Intrepid and it dies sometimes when its idleing or when I go to put it in gear and then sometimes I can drive it all day with no problems, I'm just wondering if anyone has had this same problem because I don't want to buy expensive parts if I don't have to! I can also rev the car up and it sounds good and doesn't sound like its having any kind of a gas problem and it don't really cut out at?

You'd be surprised how many times this one pops up, it is quite common...does it idle kind of rough before it quits? If it does, there may be a vacuum hose that split, or broke off. That would cause your car to idle erratically, low idle and "die"...

Why would headlamps go out twice in 2 months?

Look carefully all around the engine compartment, find all small rubber hoses, and trace them to both ends where they connect. Some connect to plastic "tee" connectors, so find all of them, there are a lot.

Junkyard chevy 350 engine?

If all are ok, it could be a dirty or failed Idle Air Control valve, a dirty Mass Air Flow sensor, bad egr valve...OR, last but not least, a bad vacuum booster for the brakes...but that one usually doesn't let your car idle at all.
