Question:
I have a 99 VW Bora 2.0 SE. I get a message "Alternator Workshop!" when I start the car. It disappears immediately but the battery light stays on. I can drive the car but the battery dies after an hour or so. I have checked the fuses on the battery pack and all are ok. I have also tested the voltage across the battery when the engine is idling - this read 9.7V. I have tried a working battery from a Renault Megane but the problem persists. Is this an alternator problem or would it be worth trying a new battery?

well, your battery voltage should be 13.8v (at the alternator) so, change the alt, if it has a brush block, remove it, make sure the srpings are working, and the brushes are OK...\ 15 quid as opposed to 135...Reprogramming keyless entry on a 91 Lincoln Town Car?
