Look at it, Note how many bolts and where they are. Some you will have to remove just to get the new belt on. Always put on a new belt , definitely worth it and not that expensive. Usually there is a diagram on your hood showing you the direction your belt has to run for both a/c and non. If you put it back exactly how you took it out it's pretty easy. The biggest gear (pulley?) is your lever when you put it back on. Move it with a tire iron or something to give the belt enough slack to get it over all the pulleys.

If it's near the top of the engine somewhere, rather than way down below, it will be an easier job. First make positively sure you need a new alternator by replacing a battery that's 4 years old or more and making sure the battery terminals are clean and tight. Use an inexpensive Volt Ohm Meter (VOM) to check the charging voltage across the battery terminals to be 14 Volts or more. If so, you don't need a new alternator.
