Question:
I try to put the distribter back on the oil pump move . So how do I set the timing back right? I took the # 1 to tdc and the distributer to point to # 1 and it won't start. thanks

How do I find out if my car has SEALED BEAM HEADLIGHTS or not?

Hi. Remove the #1 spark plug and watch the piston to find TDC. Put your finger on the plug hole to determine the compression stroke first. Then align the distributor with the wire to #1. Rough set the timing to get it started, then use a timing light. (Remember to remove the SPOUT if it has one.)

How come my car smells like stinky eggs and the service engine is on?

its possible you have the distributor 1 tooth out

DOES IT BACKFIRE. IF SO YOU HAVE THE DISTRUBUTOR 180 DEGREES OUT. TAKE THE #1 SPARK PLUG OUT. ROTATE THE ENGINE WITH A SOCKET ON THE CRANK BOLT AT FRONT OF THE ENGINE. PUT PISTON AT TDC. LINE THE ROTOR BUTTON UP WITH THE NUMBER ONE PLUG WIRE AND SET DISTRIBUTOR IN PLACE. IF DOESN'T START TAKE DISTRIBUTOR OUT JUST ENOUGH TO TURN THE ROTOR BUTTON 180 DEGREES AND PUT BACK IN. SHOULD START NOW.

Uh, it ain't gonna backfire if the distributer is 180 out genius. It's not too likely to run at all if the coil is firing at the top of the exhaust stroke.
